LAVANTA HOTEL
The view is marvelous, the rooms luxurious and the breakfast excellent. But what prompted nearly a dozen correspondents to write to us was that it has something more than that. Lavanta offers the unique experience of feeling like the personal guests of Tosun and Maria Merey, the charming and hospitable owners.
Tosun, Maria and family spent many years living in various countries around the world. The concept of Lavanta started as a private luxurious home in which to enjoy an early retirement, once fired with enthusiasm however they ended up converting acres of unspoilt hillside into a comfortable and spacious retreat.
With his lovely wife Maria, guests are offered not just an excellent kitchen but all the attention to detail that turns a good hotel into an extraordinary one. Each room is individually and uniquely furnished, standing a notch or two above the usual 5-star standard. Internet access.

Stone walls, old marble features and glazed tiles underline the atmosphere overall. All rooms are individually decorated with wood motifs, Turkish rugs, wrought-iron: in the library one feels like the guest of Captain Nemo himself. There is even a stone oven for bread and an excellent wine-cellar.”
